Adult Learning Programs

There are many reasons to return to learning.

If you are looking for a learning program to support your goals, Calgary Learns funds programs that may help.

Calgary Learns provides grants to non-profit organizations to deliver foundational learning programs. Programs are for learners who are:

  • Building basic skills, up to Grade 9 or Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 6
  • Adults (over 18)
  • Living in Calgary
  • Facing financial barriers to learning

We support programs that help with learning basic skills. Some programs are designed for a certain group of learners:

Bi-Literacy Project

Centre for Newcomers (CFN)

Are you a newcomer who speaks Tigrigna, Arabic, or Farsi/Dari? This program is for adults who did not have access to formal schooling and have not learned to read or write in their first language. The class begins with first language instruction to help adults learn English literacy skills.

English Language Learning for Immigrant Women

Calgary Immigrant Women’s Association (CIWA)

Are you learning English at CLB 1–2 or CLB 2–3? This program helps women learn English and basic computer skills. You will practice English for daily life and prepare for LINC classes. On-site childcare is available to help mothers.

Everyday English for Seniors

Job Readiness for Newcomers

The Immigrant Education Society (TIES)

Have you been on the waitlist for LINC 3/4 courses for three months or more? Do you need to enhance your English language skills to find employment? This program will help you learn about Canadian workplaces and job search related communication skills.
